New Dillinger Escape Plan Single – Farewell, Mona Lisa

Posted in Things I Does with tags , , , on December 22, 2009 by loxlee

A preview for the first single of the forthcoming Dillinger Escape Plan Album – Option Paralysisis is now available on Amazon here. It is only a little snippet but man it sounds good! It is going to be released on January 19th with the album slated for a release date of March 22 2010. Before the album is out they are playing one UK gig in the tiny Camden Barfly on February 12th, if you managed to get a ticket then your a lucky bastard because its sold out, however if you are completely fucking mental (or rich) you can get tickets on Seatwave, there are a couple on there at the moment for £100!

For the rest of us normal people we will have to wait for the album but it will be worth the wait, it is going to be amazing. It even features Mike Garson on Piano who has played with NIN and David Bowie, he has just instantly become the coolest old man on the planet! (he’s 64!)

The artwork for the single looks fucking sweet as well..

Album Of The Day: The Chariot – The Fiancee

After the original singer from Norma Jean, Josh Scogin, left after the seminal album “Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child” He went on to form The Chariot and continued to produce definitive hardcore albums. The band has a rotating door line-up with only Josh Scogin being on every album, which gives them a unique sound to every album.

This is the second full length and features some of the most experimental playing in my opinion even drawing in some of the technicality of Dillinger Escape Plan and the experimentation with strings, female vocals and choirs elevates it above a lot of other straight up hardcore.

Best song is the frankly epic ‘Then Came To Kill’ everybodys favourite red head Hayley Williams actually features on it and honestly it is not as bad as it sounds, in fact her parts fit in perfectly!

Top Five Covers

After listening to the Atreyu cover of Bon Jovi earlier I have just been listening to cover versions all day, I remember back when you could find a punk version of anything (usually by Me First And The Gimme Gimmes). They all followed the exact same format and were generally a bit crap after the comedy of the first listen wore off. Now everything seems to be hardcore covers, but then again everything seems to be ‘hardcore’ nowadays.

Anyway have my top 5 cover versions, in no particular order.

First up A Static Lullaby doing Toxic by Britney Spears. This is just brilliant because they actually made a music video for it!

Goldfingers cover of 99 Red Ballons is probably the most well known punk cover, I swear I used to think this was the original!

Now for something a bit different have the most savage band in the world covering (very accurately) the most savage electronic artist in the world

How about a rap cover? This is cool because the band went out of there comfort zone and did it in the original style. Hot Rod Circuit covering Gin and Juice.

And finally just because I love the original so much and because Attack Attack! sound exactly like Enter Shikari, have some I Kissed A Girl originally by the lovely Katy Perry.

Hmm five is not enough have some more as well!

Dillinger Escape Plan did a cover of NIN’s wish and then they played it onstage with them in Perth which looked awesome! so have that video

Have them doing Hot For Teacher as well

Have another rap cover as well, this time Notorious Thugs followed by Men In Black

I have loads more I want to do but i think i’ll give you all a rest now! 🙂

DEP just posted up a 12 second snippet on youtube of a song from there new album, which I cannot wait for! if its half as good as Ire Works it will shit on everything else in music.

That 12 seconds has blown my face off, I think there are more notes played in it than ive ever played in my life! There is soo much good music on its way to us at the moment its unreal. Now all I need is Bon Jovi to make a new album in the Slippery When Wet style and life will be perfect
