Album Of The Day: Thrice – The Alchemy Index Vols. I & II

Thrice - The Alchemy Index Vols. I & II Fire and WaterWhen a band that used to do the more pop side of post hardcore decide they are going to do 4 part epic released over two double albums with each part being based on one of the elements you could be forgiven for thinking it might not be that brilliant. Thankfully though Thrice have always had a bit of the experimental about them and every album leading up to this hinted at what they could do, their newest album “Beggars” was my AOTD a while back and carried on the experimental side a lot. Vols. I & II are based on Fire and Water and the opening song to Fire is one of the best songs Thrice have ever written. These albums also saw Thrice cross over into the alt rock sound with a lot more of a softer and slower style and almost non-existent screaming throughout either album.

The best song is the opener to Fire called, “Firebreather”. The video gets pretty amazing at the end.
