Album Of The Day: Porcupine Tree – Fear Of A Blank Planet

Porcupine Tree are one of the best progressive bands around at the moment mixing prog, psychedelia, metal, ambient and even trance to create a sound so epic that when you listen to it you actually dissapear into the music and look up after a while to realise you haven’t done anything in ages (this didn’t just happen to me while at work…)

Starting way back a year before I was born in 1987 as a bit of a joke this album released in 2007 two decades after formation is imo easily their best work. Consisting of only 6 songs it sounds short but in true prog spirit the quickest song is 5 minutes and the longest is 17.43 minutes!

The 17 minute epic ‘Anesthetize’ is also the best song on the album and the best song they have written. It is a long listen but seriously, try to get through it all, it is definitely worth it! (It’s so long Youtube has split it into two videos…)
