Album Of The Day: Motion City Soundtrack – My Dinosaur Life

Motion City Soundtrack - My Dinosaur Life Album Cover

Remember the days when Pop Punk was the king of the charts and every band seemed to be Californian and used the word bro and dude all the time? I do and it was my first foray into ‘real’ music, bands like Blink 182, Less Than Jake, MxPx, Midtown and Jimmy Eat World all set me on the path from listening to whatever was on the radio/cd player in mums car/adverts to finding new bands and saving up to buy my own albums.

I owe a lot to the often ridiculed Pop Punk genre and I still listen to all the old bands occasionally even occasionally loving a new album of the fairly small scene nowadays (By that I mean old skool Pop Punk, the newer versions of it are quite different). One of the new albums is ‘My Dinosaur Life’ by Motion City Soundtrack, whose 2002 debut ‘I Am The Movie’ was a mainstay on my tape player. A great fact about that album is that they also released it on a floppy disc! Oh how things have changed!

Anyway this new album stays on the same happy good time pop music line and is again produced by Mark Hoppus and with songs like ‘A Lifeless Ordinary (Need A Little Help) sounding a bit like Wheatus, you know they haven’t tried to change their sound to fit in with new music.

Best song is ‘A Lifeless Ordinary (Need A Little Help)’
