Album Of The Day: Blakroc – Blakroc

It’s been a while since my last AOTD so I will start again with one of the best albums of 2009 and the best collaboration since Robbie and Nicole, this amazing album features 11 songs with 11 different artists rapping over a backing from the blues duo The Black Keys. Started by Damon Dash and The Black Keys they recorded a different artist everyday for 11 days and ended up with a killer album of blues based hip hop.

The people that feature on the album are all veterans of the hip hop scene and you can be sure that Lil Wayne or 50 Cent wont turn up and ruin things. Some of the artists include, Raekwon, RZA and (a posthumous appearance by) ODB of Wu-Tang, Mos Def and Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest).

Because of the old blues sound of The Black Keys this is not like a normal rock/rap collaboration so don’t expect Beastie Boys or Rage Against The Machine.

Best song ‘On The Vista’ which has Mos Def on it.

The full album can be found here on Spotify

You can also watch the recording of the album on the Blakroc website in webisodes, you can see the trailer below.
