Album Of The Day: Poison The Well – The Tropic Rot

This album came from nowhere to be one of my favourite releases this year, Poison The Well have always been good but they were never on any of my must listen lists, I could take them or leave them. Then this album came out and I honestly think they have made Mastodon’s Crack The Skye for the hardcore genre. Honestly it is that good.

I’m fairly sure I wont be the only person who can hear the similarities I just hope metal fans don’t instantly dismiss this album just because it is Poison The Well. The album is experimental, has mostly singing on it and has a lot of slower moments. The band have always thrown fans a curveball with every albums different sound but this one manages to just amalgamate all the best parts from all the previous efforts and then adds a decades worth of maturity and writing skill to produce one of the albums of the year.

Best song is too hard to choose because it really is an album that needs listening all the way through, not just a collection of singles. So therefore I will put the opener ‘Exist Underground’ here, which gives you a good intro to how the album sounds.
