Album Of The Day: Backyard Babies – Stockholm Syndrome

Backyard Babies used to be one of my favourite bands for a long time (the last couple of releases have been a bit ‘meh’) and are one of the reasons that glam punk has been getting a bit of popularity lately. You can judge for yourselves whether this is a good or bad thing.

Stockholm Syndrome is the 4th full length album they released and it takes the raw power of ‘Total 13’ and mixed it with the production values of ‘Making Enemies Is Good’ to create the best album of their career. From the opening song, ‘Everybody Ready?!’ Which opens everything with a literal call of is everybody ready for this album? It riffs its way through a party of epic proportions. The song ‘Friends’ shows just how big they are in the glam punk scene because it features just about everyone respectable you can think of, members of Hanoi Rocks, Turbonegro, Danko Jones, L7, Dwarves, Hellacopters, Nina Persson from The Cardigans and even Joey Ramone all guest on it!

Best song is probably Minus Celsius, purely because it is their definitive sound.
