It’s All Kicking Off In Copenhagen

I don’t know if you have been following the Climate Change Copenhagen conferences and talks but it seems to all be kicking off at the moment, I can’t seem to get away from it whatever news site or tv channel I go on is telling me this big event is going on and it is going to change the world and I really should know about it.

But as far as i can see it is exactly the same as whenever lots of political leaders get into one place to talk about something, they argue and nothing gets resolved. No conclusions are made and the whole thing didn’t really make an ounce of difference.

The other thing that happens are the protests, lots and lots of protests. Not that i’m against protests but there is alwasy going to be a select few who will do something stupid and then all the protesters will be tarred with the same idiotic brush.

So anyway the talks are going on at the moment and so far we have had thousands of arrests, then even more arrests because some barricades were set on fire (congratulations Mr climate change protester, lets set fire to something that will set off lots of lovely toxic fumes. Genius!) President Obama annoys Norwegians and Danes by not meeting their royalty (oh no, what a bad, bad person!) People walk out in a huff and then get confused as to whether they walked out of were actually kicked out and 45,000 people try to go to a convention they thought only 15,000 would turn up to.

The Terminator joins the party and says “The world’s governments alone cannot make the progress that is needed on global climate change, they need the cities, the states, the provinces, the regions. They need the corporations, the activists, the scientists, the universities.” He annoys everyone because he makes it hard to get an ‘I’ll be back’ pun in, he could have at least said he wanted to terminate something.

And finally a leaked document before most of it even starts annoys ‘poor’ countries because it says to treat rich and poor countries as equals, possibly the only time they will complain about that.

So what good has actually come of it? Well not much at the moment, from what I can see everyone is just squabbling like little kids and there isn’t long left to come up with some kind of agreement. The only good thing I can think of is that a Danish island called Samso has become energy self sufficient and is acting as a good guide that other places could follow in the future.

Hopefully something will be done because as much as I like to ignore the effects of climate change, they are happening and I guess some of the intelligent people around should agree on a way we can try and stop it.
